Manuela Hartel transformed the altar area of the church into a multi-layered space of experience in which chanting, organ music, and video sequences overlap. The central motif is a swing attached below the dome, on which the artist swings back and forth: always facing the audience, moving in and out of the center of the nave, like a classic clock pendulum. The repetitive movements cause the natural balance to falter or, medically speaking, lead to a balance disorder.
